Comments

For patients to be admitted to the hospital, consider ordering test FARVPP (Respiratory Infection Array; performed once per day, 7 days/week) which has higher sensitivity. Nasal wash collection: 2.5mL sterile saline instilled in the nasopharynx, collected as a washout, and placed in sterile container.Posterior nasopharyngeal swab must be submitted in dry sterile tube. OUTPATIENT While Sofia Influenza A+B does have a stability of 8 hours, Laboratory Services recommends the Puritan swab sample be transported by the parent or legal guardian to one of the following Laboratory Service Centers within one hour of collection (Canal Winchester, Dublin, East Broad, Lewis Center, Hilliard, Marysville, Newark, Springfield, Westerville, and Washington Court House).
