Specimen Preparation

  • Centrifuge within 2 hours, separate supernatant and freeze
  • Transport to laboratory as soon as possible

  • Contamination

  • Wrong collection tube

Comments

For newborns less than 30 days old, collect specimen from the mother. Not recommended for the diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Use to detect platelet-specific antibodies in suspected fetal or neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia, post-transfusion purpura, or multiplatelet transfusion refractoriness.
