Specimen Preparation

  • Mark specimen as "Acute" or "Convalescent"
  • Centrifuge within 2 hours, separate supernatant and refrigerate

  • Wrong collection tube
  • Heat treated specimen
  • Hemolyzed specimen
  • Lipemic specimen
  • Icteric specimen
  • Bacterial contamination
  • Plasma unacceptable
  • Turbid specimen


Indicate whether sample is acute or convalescent. Parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens.
