Specimen Preparation

  • Offsite staff please refer to procedure for specific collection requirements of Controlled Drug Screens
  • Seal collection container tightly after collection
  • Transport to laboratory as soon as possible
  • If delay in transport greater than 1 hour, refrigerate

Reasons for Rejection

  • Bacterial contamination
  • Collected in diaper or cotton balls
  • Contamination
  • Diluted specimen
  • pH not within specified limits
  • Wrong temperature
  • Wrong type of specimen
  • Delayed or improper handling


Screen only. Temperature and color of urine are noted at time of collection. Only to be ordered at off-site Laboratory Service Centers.  PCP was removed from panel but can still be ordered as a send-out test if desired.
