American Equity Mortgage, one of the leading mortgage bankers in the country, presented a check for $250,000 to Columbus Children’s Hospital Tuesday, May 1 during a reception at Children’s Hospital. The company committed $250,000 to Children’s in December 2005, and Tuesday’s reception celebrated this generous gift.
“We are proud to support Columbus Children’s Hospital’s mission to provide the highest quality care for children and their families,” Deanna Daughhetee, president and chief executive officer of American Equity Mortgage, said. “Amazing work is being done at Children’s right now, particularly in the area of clinical cancer care, and we are gratified to be a part of assuring the hospital can continue to be a leader in pediatric healthcare.”
In honor of the gift, Children’s will name “The American Equity Mortgage Hematology/Oncology Day Hospital” in the hospital’s clinical expansion. The clinic, which opened in April 2006, houses five patient rooms and 10 patient beds along side 4,000 square feet dedicated as an outpatient clinic for patients with cancer and blood diseases.
“We are thankful for companies like American Equity Mortgage who invest in our mission to help us provide the best care to children and families dealing with cancer and blood diseases,” said Thomas Gross, MD, PhD, chief of Hematology/Oncology at Columbus Children’s Hospital. “We have made great strides in treating these diseases, and we continue to search for ways to improve the lives of these patients and their families.”
American Equity Mortgage has a long standing tradition of helping children’s organizations. Daughhetee is former Chair of the Old Newsboys Day campaign, a St. Louis community-wide campaign that each year raises more than $750,000 for 250 children’s organizations. Currently, she is Chair of St. Louis Social Venture Partners, an organization that focuses on capacity building for non-profits primarily focused on disadvantaged youth. The company also is the lead sponsor for the new Ronald McDonald House Family Room at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. Recently, American Equity also has provided corporate support for such organizations as KidSmart, National Council of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Youth Leadership Conference and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
