Ashley K. Fernandes, MD, PhD, is the Associate Director of the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He received an MA in Philosophy from Johns Hopkins University (1999); an MD from The Ohio State University (2003); and a PhD in Philosophy (Bioethics) from Georgetown University (2008). Dr. Fernandes completed a residency in Pediatrics at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center, and is board certified in General Pediatrics. Focusing on bioethics and professionalism education, he is active in the LSI curriculum at OSU as DOC-3 Director, LG Leader, and a portfolio coach. He practices both hospital and ambulatory pediatrics.

Dr. Fernandes is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and a member of the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society, receiving the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine award in 2010. His intellectual interests include philosophical and clinical bioethics, especially pediatric ethics; and bioethics education research. Dr. Fernandes has presented his academic work at local, regional, national, and international conferences, and is the author of more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications.
