Robot-Assisted Surgery in Pediatric Urology

Some urological conditions may be treated with a surgical procedure. When surgery options are considered, our pediatric urologists use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible to reduce pain, length of hospital stays and the appearance of surgical scars. Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery is one minimally invasive approach that combines the skills of specially trained surgeons with a state-of-the-art robotic surgical system.

Urological surgery procedures may include:

• Appendicocecostomy diversion, also called Malone antegrade continence enema (MACE) procedure

• Appendicovesicostomy

• Bladder reconstruction

• Kidney reconstruction, including partial nephrectomy

• Pyeloplasty: ureteropelvic junction obstruction surgery

• Ureter reconstruction

• Ureteral reimplantation: vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) surgery
