Our multi-disciplinary approach is sparing lives, limbs and the need for invasive surgery.
The orthopaedic-oncology team at Nationwide Children’s provides highly specialized care for soft tissue and bone tumors in extremities and the spine. The multi-disciplinary team cares for a variety of benign and malignant tumors, including primary tumors like Ewing’s sarcoma and osteosarcoma, as well as secondary metastases.
These surgeons have in-depth experience navigating anatomically challenging tumors and work quickly to reduce the chance of cancer spreading or conditions worsening in ways that could impact a child’s growth and activity. Recognized nationally for success with complex limb reconstruction and salvage reconstruction due to aggressive cancers, our orthopedics team is a leader in the rotation plasty, an amputation-sparing procedure that reconstructs a new knee out of the ankle joint. The team has one of the largest volumes of rotation plasties among all pediatric institutions in the country.
