Vitamin D, 1,25-Dihydroxy should be ordered to evaluate patients with rickets or renal failure. If you are looking to assess nutritional status, this is not the correct test. You should order Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy (VITD) for nutritional status. Serum must be separated from cells within 1 hour of collection. Serum samples from outside the hospital may be sent refrigerated if it is within the approved time. Minimum volume does not permit repeat analysis.
