  • Ship entire specimen to laboratory refrigerated
  • Protect specimen from light. Cover with foil
  • Transport to laboratory as soon as possible
  • Centrifuge within 1 hour, separate supernatant and refrigerate

Reasons for Rejection

  • Frozen whole blood
  • EDTA tube with powder
  • Wrong collection tube

Comments

If both vitamin B12 and Folate are requested, sample should be a fasting sample. It is preferred that specimen be protected from light, however light exposure is NOT a reason for rejection.
