Reasons for Rejection

  • Collected in diaper or cotton balls
  • Not received within specified time frame
  • Frozen specimen
  • Use of urine preservative

Comments

Urine culture will be performed and billed if urinalysis demonstrates positive nitrites, leukocyte esterase and/ or WBC > 5/hpf. Specimens not expected to arrive for testing within 2 hours must be refrigerated for up to 24 hours. Those specimens greater that 12 hours but less than 24 hours will be tested with a comment stating "Urine more than 12 hours old. Results may be adversely affected." Urines received more than 24 hours after collection will be rejected **If submitting urine collected on cotton balls, please order Urinalysis Strip with Culture if Indicated(test code UASR). No microscopic results can be performed on this sample type.
