Specimen Preparation

  • Transport to laboratory as soon as possible
  • Raw stool must be placed into appropriate transport media within 2 hours of collection

Reasons for Rejection

  • Stool received in Ecofix preservative
  • Stool received in PVA preservative only
  • Stool in diaper
  • Stool containing barium
  • Stool received on swabs
  • Rectal swab
  • Not frozen within specified time frame
  • Not received at proper temperature

Comments

Antigen detection is recommeded over O&P examination fro detection of Giardia.
