Specimen Preparation

  • Collect by venipuncture
  • Mix by gentle inversion immediately after collection
  • Centrifuge, remove plasma/serum and refrigerate
  • Transport to laboratory as soon as possible

Comments

b-hCG assay is only approved for the early detection of pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy cannot be distinguished from normal pregnancy by HCG measurements alone and must be interpreted with the overall clinical picture.
