Reasons for Rejection
- Specimen not processed at bedside
- Not frozen within specified time frame
Obtain the proper collection tubes from the laboratory and fill each tube to the line as indicated. Set consists of 5 numbered centrifuge tubes in a small bag. Place the tubes on ice at the bedside.Freeze at -80 C as soon as possible. IF the sample is blood contaminated, the tubes should immediately be centrifuged (prior to freezing) and the clear CSF transferred to new similarly labeled tubes then frozen and stored at -80 C ASAP. This test requires the CSF to be frozen immediately at -80 C. Freezing at -20 C is not acceptable.
