Specimen Preparation

  • Centrifuge, remove plasma and refrigerate
  • If delay in transport is greater than 24 hours, freeze

Reasons for Rejection

  • Collected in tube with gel separator
  • Delayed or improper handling
  • Gross hemolysis
  • Wrong collection tube

Comments

If a separate Calcium is requested by physician, it is not necessary for lab personnel to credit it out as there is a program in place to credit the duplicate testing.
