Specimen Preparation

  • Centrifuge within 2 hours, separate supernatant and refrigerate
  • Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles

Comments

This is the test for the Prevnar vaccine (14 serotypes). This vaccine is given to patients <2 years of age. Patients should be drawn prior to Pneumoccal vaccination and 30 days post vaccination. Mark specimens clearly as Pre or Post. If patients are vaccinated with the PNEUMOVAX or Pnu-Imune 23 vaccines, order test code XSPA23.
