Do not collect from locations outside Columbus-metro area. Transport at room temperature, to arrive in Coag Lab within 3.5 hours of collection and by 2200. Samples can only be collected between the hours of 0400 and 2200 (test is not performed on 3rd shift). Test is performed daily. This test must be drawn in a separate tube if other coag tests are ordered. Submission of minimum whole blood volume (2.7 mL) may not allow for repeat testing of abnormal results. Thorough patient history, including current medications, should be sent to the laboratory with the sample. If patient has recently received a platelet transfusion, this test is neither indicated nor useful. Patient's platelet count must be >50,000. Sample with low hematocrit may yield unacceptable results. Glass collection tubes will be rejected. A pathologist's interpretation (billed through Pediatric Pathology Associates (PPAC)) may be ordered and charged if the results are abnormal.
