Specimen Preparation

  • Do not centrifuge
  • Keep at room temperature
  • Mix by gentle inversion immediately after collection
  • Transport to laboratory as soon as possible
  • Do not refrigerate

Reasons for Rejection

  • Not received within specified time frame
  • Clotted specimen
  • Specimen received on wrong day of week.
  • Over or under filled tube
  • Refrigerated specimen

Comments

Test is performed Monday - Fridaybut not on national holidays-plan collection accordingly. Specimens must be RECEIVED in the lab by 5pm Friday fortesting to be performed. Do not collect between 4pm Fridayand noon Sunday due to stability of sample. (Test is not setup on Sunday, but specimens can be collected on Sunday after 12:00 p.m.(noon) unless Monday is a national holiday). If >10% double negative T-cells are identified, a DNTC test will be added on and if found to be abnormal a consult will be generated and charged from PPAC (Pediatric Pathology Associates).
