Comments

Inpatient/ER collection: Non-family member normal control sample should be collected and shipped at approximately same time as patient to insure proper test interpretation. Patient (Green Lithium Heparin and Purple EDTA ) and Control (Green Lithium Heparin) samples must be sent together to insure transport and handling conditions are the same for both samples

Outpatient collection: Non-family member normal control sample MUST be collected at approximately same time as patient sample collection to insure proper test interpretation . Patient (Green Lithium Heparin and Purple EDTA ) and Control (Green Lithium Heparin) samples must be shipped together to insure transport and handling conditions are the same for both samples. An EDTA sample should be collected on the patient so that a CBC can be performed. The CBC (CPT 85025) will be ordered by Laboratory Services staff in the Hematology Lab, and charged to the patient.

Specimens must be received in the main Hematology Laboratory within 6 hours of collection, and by 1500 Monday - Thursday. Specimens that fail to meet acceptable receipt criteria may be rejected or performed as an unincubated procedure (CPT 85555) at the discretion of the Pathologist. A pathologist's consult (billed from Pediatric Pathology Associates (PPAC)) will be ordered and charged. Test is not performed on weekends. Collect sample Monday through Thursday.
