Specimen Preparation

  • Centrifuge within 45 minutes, discard plasma, save RBCs and refrigerate
  • Collect at NCH Laboratory Service Center only

Reasons for Rejection

  • Collected in tube with gel separator
  • Serum sample
  • Plasma unacceptable

Comments

Testing is done on red cells. Must be drawn at a Nationwide Children's Laboratory Service Center draw site. Use to evaluate magnesium deficiency.
