Comments

Tissue is preferred for recovery of fungus from deep seated infections. Send tissue sample in sterile container with a small amount of non-bacteriostatic saline to prevent drying of the sample. Swab collections are NOT recommended.

This test is not for culture of skin or nails scrapings, hair shaft, or scalps. Order Fungal Dermatophyte culture (FDC, CPT 87102) for these specimen types.Includes direct fungal smear (KOHP) when appropriate.
