Specimen Preparation

  • Centrifuge within 2 hours, separate supernatant and refrigerate
  • Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles

Reasons for Rejection

  • Gross lipemia
  • Contamination
  • Wrong type of specimen
  • Hemolyzed specimen
  • Icteric specimen


Testing includes both the fungal CF battery and fungal immunodiffusion tests. Antibodies for: Aspergillus, Blastomyces, Coccidioides, Histoplasma (2). Acute and convalescent specimens must be labeled as such: parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens MUST be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens.
