Reasons for Rejection

  • Wrong type of specimen
  • Not received within specified time frame
  • Specimen other than throat swab

Comments

Negative specimens from patients less than 18 years of age will receive a Group A Strep Gen Probe (CPT 87650) unless a throat culture or throat for group A strep only is specified by the caregiver on the requisition/order OR if only one swab is submitted. Negative specimens from patients 18 years of age or older will not receive any further testing unless specifically requested by caregiver. For all patients, if Direct Strep A antigen is positive, no confirmatory culture or Gen Probe will be performed unless specifically requested.
