Specimen Preparation

  • Allow specimen to clot for one hour at room temperature
  • Centrifuge within 2 hours, separate supernatant and freeze
  • Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles

Reasons for Rejection

  • Collected in tube with gel separator
  • Thawed frozen specimen
  • Thawed and refrozen specimen
  • Received on ice


DO NOT PLACE SPECIMEN ON ICE AFTER COLLECTION. Transport to the laboratory at room temperature as soon as possible.

Ordering Recommendation: Initial screening for suspected deficiency in the classical complement pathway.
