Specimen Preparation

  • Centrifuge within 2 hours, separate supernatant and refrigerate

Reasons for Rejection

  • Not centrifuged within time frame
  • Hemolyzed specimen
  • Specimen drawn during surgery, in recovery room or within 2 days post surgery

Comments

Specimen must be drawn prior to surgery or more than two days following surgery.  Do not draw in recovery room.

Plasma values slightly lower than serum.
