Specimen Preparation

  • Centrifuge, remove plasma/serum and freeze
  • Immediately place on dry ice and transport frozen
  • Collect by venipuncture

Reasons for Rejection

  • Wrong collection tube
  • Collected in tube with gel separator
  • Not received at proper temperature
  • Not received within specified time frame

Comments

When ordered as a follow-up to an abnormal newborn screening test, please submit a copy of the state newborn screening results with the specimen. If patient is on TPN therapy, please consult Genetics Services first for proper collection procedure.
