Suicide in Young Children

This study examined the characteristics and precipitating factors of childhood suicide. This qualitative study found childhood suicide was associated with multiple risk factors and commonly preceded by a negative precipitating event.

Suicide in Elementary School-Aged Youth and Adolescents

This study examined the characteristics and precipitating circumstances of suicide in elementary school–aged children relative to early adolescent decedents. Compared with early adolescents who died by suicide, children who died by suicide were more commonly male, Black, died by hanging/strangulation/suffocation and died at home. 

Suicide Trends in Elementary School-Aged Youth

This study examined trends in suicide among U.S. children younger than 12 by sociodemographic group and method of death. The stable overall suicide rate in school-aged children in the United States during 20 years of study obscured a significant increase in suicide incidence in Black children and a significant decrease in suicide incidence among white children.
