Emergency Medicine Fellowship
The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is designed to prepare physicians for an academic career in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
Our program offers a challenging experience, allowing fellows to progressively acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to provide excellent direct and supervisory emergency care to children.
Fellows are offered a broad experience in all facets of pediatric emergency medicine¸ including clinical care, teaching, research and administration. We accept graduates from both pediatric and emergency medicine residencies.

Experience
Nationwide Children’s Hospital has one of the busiest pediatric emergency departments in the country. With 62 beds and over 90,000 visits per year, we offer an outstanding clinical experience for trainees. We are a Level I Trauma Center, the first designated as such in the state of Ohio in 1991. We are also a verified Burn Center. We have a close relationship with our Child Advocacy Center and offer a four-year combined Child Abuse/Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship. Our fellows also have the opportunity to practice in a community setting in our satellite Lewis Center location.

Research
Research education and training are vital to the mission of Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a top-ten free-standing pediatric research center and an academic affiliate of The Ohio State University, The Research Institute has an outstanding faculty, dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of scientists in pediatric research.

Advocacy
Advocacy training fosters and encourages interest in child advocacy by early involvement and exposure to its many aspects such as addressing social determinants of health, community collaboration, health finance, health policy and legislative advocacy.
Application and Selection
The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program takes three to six new fellows per year. Applications for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program must be submitted via the Electronic Residency Application Program (ERAS), which opens for participation in July of each year. Applicants may register at MyERAS and begin working on their applications in June. All required clinical education for entry into ACGME-accredited fellowship programs must be completed in an ACGME-accredited residency program in the United States, or in an RCPSC-accredited or CFPC-accredited residency program located in Canada. After a review of the completed applications, selected applicants will be invited to interview (removed on site).

- ECFMG status report (if foreign medical graduate)
- J1 visa (if non-resident)*
- Board eligible or board certified in Pediatrics or Emergency Medicine
At the close of interview season, candidates will be ranked and the final selection will be submitted to the National Residency Match Program (NRMP). Residents being considered for a fellowship at our institution must also register with the NRMP. The results of the Match will be published in mid-December.
*NOTE: J1 Visas are the only visas accepted by our program.
