The 2nd annual Nationwide Childrens Sports Medicine Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Award honored two local high school students, Steven Young (43026) and Laura Larkin (43054), for exemplifying healthy lifestyles.
This annual award was created to honor two area high school students who recognize the importance of an overall healthy lifestyle in both mind and body. According to Lisa Kluchurosky, program manager for Childrens Sports Medicine, A healthy student understands and demonstrates how fitness and conditioning, injury prevention skills, good nutritional habits and a positive attitude contribute to his or her success.
A 2008 graduate from Hilliard Davidson High school, Young was an active member in a variety of community service events, including the Special Olympics, throughout his high school years. His passion for working with other young groups as well as his strong work ethic have earned him several awards honoring his leadership and service. One of Stevens teachers said that, "Steven has a genuine concern for his community, his country and his world. He has great talents for working with people and serves as a true leader for any group of which he is a part of." This fall, Young plans to attend Miami University to study accounting.
Larkin is a 2008 graduate of New Albany High School. She was actively involved in student council and the diversity committee as well as playing soccer and basketball at the varsity level for the Lady Eagles. One of her teachers said that, During the time that I have been associated with Laura, I have become very impressed with her positive attitude, various talents, work ethic and her concern for others. Larkin will be at Notre Dame University this fall where she plans on studying bioanthropology, sociology and Spanish. She aspires to attend graduate school to pursue a masters degree in public health.

One of only four sports medicine facilities of its kind in the country, the Nationwide Childrens Hospital Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center is the first in Ohio to be dedicated solely to providing specially targeted care to young athletes and active kids. The 23,000 square-feet facility includes clinical and procedure rooms, rehabilitation gym and performance center with advanced exercise equipment and multipurpose activity flooring providing space for the Childrens Personal Best Injury Prevention programs, a track and basketball area. Services available at the center include radiology, which includes two digital plain-film radiography rooms, the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition, Comprehensive Pain Management, Gastroenterology and Orthopedics.
The Nationwide Childrens Hospital Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center is located at 584 County Line Road West in Westerville.
Nationwide Childrens Sports Medicine is a team of physicians, athletic trainers and physical therapists specially trained to deal with injuries unique to the student athlete.
