Nationwide Children’s Hospital to Open Close to Home Center with Urgent Care in Marysville

Columbus, OH - 6/6/2013

Nationwide Children’s Hospital will present conceptual renderings of a Close To Home Center with Urgent Care to the Marysville City Design Review Board at its June 12 meeting.  Construction is slated to begin in July on 2.4 acres which the hospital purchased in late 2012 along Route 33 at the Route 36 exit in the City Gate Development.

“Nationwide Children’s treated Union County children more than 12,000 times last year alone, so we view this Center as an expansion of our commitment to the community, making it easier for families to access our services ‘close to home," said Marysville resident Kent Weakley, Regional Site Director for Nationwide Children’s.  “In addition, we recognize Marysville and Union County as areas expanding their needs for pediatric services with a 26% growth in pediatric population from census year 2000 to 2010.”

With no currently dedicated pediatric urgent care facilities in Marysville, the two-story, 20,000 foot Center is slated to open Spring 2014 and will offer specialized pediatric expertise to the community, provided by medical professionals dedicated solely to the provision of pediatric healthcare services.  Laboratory, radiology and urgent care services will be offered, with decisions still pending regarding specialty clinics and/or additional services.

“Our Close To Home Centers with Urgent Care are always designed collaboratively to complement services already provided by community physicians,” Weakley added.  “Each time we establish a Center, we always work with community pediatricians and community members in order to understand the community’s needs and determine the types of specialty clinics and additional services that will eventually be provided.”

The Nationwide Children’s Hospital care model focuses on the importance of a "medical home" and parents are always advised to consult first with their child's physician before accessing any medical services.  In addition, the model is designed to deliver care in partnership with a patient’s primary care physician, which includes consistent, timely reporting back regarding care provided to any patient.

“Nationwide Children's Hospital has been a great source of education for our pediatricians, helping us to stay current on the ever changing medical front,” said Maureen Kollar, D.O., with Hand in Hand Pediatrics.  “We have worked closely with the physicians at the Dublin facility coordinating care between the Urgent Care and pediatric specialists for our patients. Nationwide Children’s has been very timely with the reports, lab and radiology services.  We are looking forward to working with the Marysville facility to continue the up-to-date information and care they give our patients when our office is closed in the evening or weekends. It allows us to have peace of mind while we enjoy our families.”

Nationwide Children’s anticipates the creation of 40 new jobs at the Center, accompanied by an investment of approximately $6 million in capital for the building, with about $2 million annually in salary/benefits.  The general contractor for the project is Thomas & Marker Construction of Bellefontaine and the architect is DesignGroup of Columbus.
