Hyundai Hope on Wheels Donates $50,000 to Nationwide Children’s Hospital to Fight Childhood Cancer
Handprint Ceremony on August 25 will commemorate the brave battles of local childhood cancer patients
Childhood cancer patients and their families who have received treatment at Nationwide Children’s Hospital will join Hyundai and its dealers to present Kerry Powell, MD, with a check for $50,000. Dr. Powell has been selected as one of thirty-one 2009 Hyundai Scholars nationwide and the donation will support her research into rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children and adolescents, accounting for 5-8 percent of childhood cancers.
After the check presentation, the childhood cancer patients from Nationwide Children’s will place their colorful handprints on a white Hyundai Santa Fe to represent their courageous battles and share their hope with other children and families across the country.
Hyundai and its dealers have donated more than $12.4 million since 1998 to fund life-saving childhood cancer research. In 1998 New England-area Hyundai dealers began raising funds to support the Jimmy Fund at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Since then the program has grown to fund hospitals and research institutions nationwide and is supported by all of Hyundai’s nearly 800 dealers. Hyundai Hope on Wheels is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
