COLUMBUS, OH - 2/5/2009

CHAMP, the fourth generation Golden Bear from the Memorial Tournament’s Bears for Children’s program, presented by Time Warner Cable, is available for $10 per bear. This limited edition stuffed bear, assured to brighten any child’s day, can be taken home to a young family member or friend or donated back to a patient at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Proceeds support the Memorial Tournament Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Nationwide Children’s. Since its inception in 1996, more than $800,000 has been generated by the program through generous public and corporate giving.

“The Bears for Children’s program holds a special place in my heart,” said the program’s honorary chair, Barbara Nicklaus. “Jack and I are so impressed by what has been accomplished at the Memorial Tournament NICU and I am truly honored to be part of a program that is aimed at raising funds for babies who are in need of the most acute care.”

The relationship between the Memorial Tournament and Nationwide Children’s has existed since the first playing of the Memorial more than 30 years ago. It revolves around the selfless dedication of the more than thirty Nationwide Children’s Hospital Auxiliaries who serve on the Women’s Division Committee. This dedicated committee, representing the Memorial and Nationwide Children’s, works to ensure professionalism from every Tournament volunteer.

In May 2005, the Memorial Tournament announced a multi-year pledge with Nationwide Children’s, extending a successful 30-year partnership with the hospital as the Tournament’s primary charitable beneficiary. Since 1976, the Memorial Tournament has raised more than $5.7 million to support the programs and services at the hospital. In recognition of the Memorial’s pledge, which will elevate the level of giving to more than $11 million in the coming years, Nationwide Children’s dedicated its NICU in honor of the Tournament.

CHAMP the bear can be purchased online by visiting, or by calling (614) 355-0810. Limited quantities are available.

The Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley is held annually at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. The Tournament, founded and hosted by Jack Nicklaus, is conducted each year with three goals in mind: to honor the memory of individuals living and deceased who have distinguished themselves in the game of golf; to showcase the world’s best golfers competing on one of the most challenging venues in the world for the enjoyment of spectators; and to benefit charitable organizations in central Ohio.
