“I’ve had a passion to help others since I was young and was always drawn to helping children. Becoming a psychologist was something I had planned to do for a long time. I’ve been here for 20 years and actually started out as a psychology intern. The diagnosis of cancer creates an instant crisis. It is a life-changing event for the entire family and community. The psychosocial services we provide here ensure not only that a patient’s physical health is a focus, but the social and emotional health of the child and family are, too. We help them cope with some of the problems that may come up during the care journey. At the end of it all, the best part of my job is knowing that I am a part of helping families cope with a sometimes devastating illness. The outcomes may not always be what we hope for, but if we can guide and support families regardless, that makes me proud of the work we do here.”
