Vidu Garg, MD, Named Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital

Vidu Garg, MD, a pediatric cardiologist and faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital has been named director of the Center for Cardiovascular Research in The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s.

In addition to treating children with heart disease, Dr. Garg also studies the genetic basis of congenital heart disease and the molecular pathways regulating normal and abnormal cardiac development.

Dr. Garg completed his pediatric residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 1997 after which he spent five years at the University of Texas Southwestern completing his pediatric cardiology training and a post-doctoral research fellowship in cardiac development and cardiovascular genetics. Subsequently, he joined the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern before returning to Nationwide Children’s in 2009. Dr. Garg is also currently an associate professor of Pediatrics and Molecular Genetics in The Ohio State University College of Medicine

According to John Barnard, MD, chief of Pediatrics and president of The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s, “Dr. Garg is a national expert on the genetics of congenital heart disease. His tremendous intellectual curiosity and ability to pose innovative scientific questions has resulted in an enviable a track record of NIH funding enabling discovery of genes and signaling pathways critical for heart development. While interim center director, Dr. Garg was a tremendous leader and in a short time significantly strengthened the Center’s NIH funding portfolio."
