Martin Vonau, medical student in the Center for Clinical and Translational Research, is the recipient of the 2013 SPR Student Research Award (Medical Student category) for his abstract “The Antimicrobial Peptide HIP/PAP is a Biomarker of Urinary Tract Infection in Mouse and Man” (Abstract #753796). This award is on behalf of the Society for Pediatric Research (SPR) and the SPR Student Research Award Committee.
Martin is a second year medical student who worked diligently last summer and this past fall characterizing various antimicrobial peptides associated with UTIs. John David Spencer, MD and Brian Becknell, MD served as mentors on Martin’s project.
Martin’s award will be announced during the SPR Presidential Plenary on May 6 at the 2013 PAS Annual Meeting in Washington DC. He will present his abstract in a platform presentation during the PAS session to which it was accepted.
