Finance and Sponsored Projects Develops Organizational Enhancements
The research activity at The Research Institute has more than doubled since 2008. In an effort to better support this growth, Finance and Sponsored Projects (FSP) is restructuring our department to provide a greater level of personalized service for our PIs. Based upon recommendations from an outside consulting agency, FSP is moving to a team-based support arrangement. Beginning in June, each PI will be working with a team that consists of a Sponsored Projects Officer (SPO), Research Business Coordinator (RBC), Senior Accountant and Accountant who will help support all of their projects. Following is a very brief description of the key functions for each role:
• SPO – Compliance, Submissions, Sponsor Communications and Award Negotiations
• RBC – Budget Development, Grant Financial Management, Effort Reporting
• Senior Accountant – Assist RBCs with financial matters, Financial Reporting, Grant Closeout
• Accountant – Process Cost Transfers, Prepare Payroll Adjustments, Assist the Senior Accountant and RBC as needed
The four roles will work closely together to provide a cohesive administrative structure to support their PIs. While a team will be supporting the PI, the primary point of contact for faculty will be the business coordinator.
Administrative Assistants will continue to provide administrative support to PIs by uploading submission documents and working closely with the SPO, RBC, Senior Accountant and Accountant on grant related matters. Additionally, Sponsored Projects continues to have a full-time person to work with the SPO/RBC to establish subcontract agreements with other institutions.
