Changes to CareLink

Community Provider Communications

(From the February 2018 Issue of MedStat)

In the November issue of MedStat, Dr. Laura Phillips-Chou wrote an excellent article on why she uses CareLink. As a reminder, CareLink is an internet-based service that allows community providers to view the Nationwide Children's Epic chart for patients assigned to that provider’s practice. Providers (and associated staff) can access CareLink from any internet-ready computer with an assigned user name and password. Here are some examples of what can be seen and done in CareLink:

  • View all notes (inpatient, outpatient, ED/UC, phone conversations) of your patients
  • See past and future scheduled appointments
  • Review medications, lab results, radiology results
  • Send a secure message through “Community Message” to Nationwide Children’s based providers

CareLink has more than 7,000 log-ins per month from hundreds of individual users. However, a large number of providers and staff with assigned user names and passwords do NOT access CareLink on a regular basis.

Because of internet security and HIPAA concerns, if a CareLink user has not logged in to the service for over a month, then that user’s account will be deactivated.

For most users that do not use CareLink, this will not be an issue. However, we realize this could be a problem for staff or providers who are off for any reason (extended vacation, medical leave, etc.).

We encourage you to use CareLink on a regular basis. However if your account becomes deactivated for whatever reason, it is easy to re-activate by contacting CareLink support through one of the following ways:

CareLink users can also use the above contact points to update practice information, or report problems.
