Casting and Laceration Repair Urgent Care Referrals

(From the March 2014 Issue of MedStat)

Medical Staff Communications Corner

The Downtown Urgent Care located on the Main Campus of Nationwide Children’s is open to serve patients from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. seven days a week. The Urgent Care serves as an extension of the patient’s primary care provider. Because the Downtown Urgent Care is at the hospital, their scope of practice is slightly different from the offsite urgent care facilities. They have the ability to perform routine lab testing and x-rays. However, while they can place splints on minor non-displaced fractures, due to the proximity to the Emergency Department, they do not have technicians for casting or laceration repair. For those procedures please refer patients to the urgent care facilities off campus during their hours of operation 3p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday or to the Emergency Department at Nationwide Children’s.
