Interventional Radiology Fellowship
The Interventional Radiology fellowship provides exposure to a broad range of interventions in a high-volume practice.
The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Pediatric Interventional Radiology fellowship provides exceptional training in a broad range of image-guided procedures in a high-volume setting. Our six pediatric interventional radiology attending physicians offer subspecialized expertise in complex vascular anomalies, complex venous and arterial interventions, GI/GU interventions and musculoskeletal interventions. We benefit from outstanding referring services including active pediatric hematology/oncology, urology, surgery and pulmonology. On completion of the training program, our fellows are able to operate independently at the highest levels of pediatric interventional radiology.
What You Need to Know
Curriculum
We offer a comprehensive one-year fellowship for motivated fellows who wish to extend their learning to interventional radiology for infants and children. All subspecialty areas are represented in our practice, including vascular and non-vascular interventions. The fellow is encouraged to participate in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient care, including pre-procedure evaluation, direct procedure performance and follow-up management. The department has regular educational opportunities for the fellow, including morbidity and mortality conference and journal club. The fellow also actively contributes to interdisciplinary conferences and resident and interventional radiology team learning.
Call frequency is typically one weeknight per week and one weekend per month.
Research Opportunities
Diverse opportunities exist for participation in clinical, laboratory bench, educational and health systems research in pediatric radiology and integrated clinical fields. Nationwide Children’s Hospital, The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Radiological Institute are recipients of both internal and external grant funding for clinical and laboratory bench research projects. Generous research funding is available for the interested fellow.

Research
Research education and training are vital to the mission of Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a top-ten free-standing pediatric research center and an academic affiliate of The Ohio State University, The Research Institute has an outstanding faculty, dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of scientists in pediatric research.

Advocacy
Advocacy training fosters and encourages interest in child advocacy by early involvement and exposure to its many aspects such as addressing social determinants of health, community collaboration, health finance, health policy and legislative advocacy.
Application and Selection
The applicant must have completed training in either interventional radiology (by completion of an integrated IR residency or via the ESIR pathway) or diagnostic radiology followed by a pediatric radiology fellowship.
The program presently accepts one fellow per year. Selected candidates will be offered an onsite interview.

Fellowship Applications Note: Appointments can be made for one year only, subject to continuing advancement as opportunity and performance permit, but this institution is not obligated to extend any appointment beyond one year. Appointments are made for a specific service. No departmental chairman can guarantee an appointment on service outside of his own departments, but such interchange may be accompanied if and when it is mutually advantageous to all concerned.
