Education and Training
The Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) has a variety of education and training programs. By educating students from high school through post-graduate levels, as well as international scholars, CIRP’s programs generate global interest in injury prevention and train the future leaders in our field.
The Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) offers various research opportunities for students interested in the injury prevention field. Each year, students from local high schools, college undergraduate and medical and public health students conduct research projects at CIRP.
The principal investigators at the Center for Injury Research and Policy also have joint appointments as faculty members at The Ohio State University. Our faculty and staff offer a number of different courses on injury topics to students in a variety of disciplines at the university.

Trainees for Child Injury Prevention (T4CIP) is a group of pediatric fellows, residents, and medical students from across the country committed to pediatric child injury prevention that develops outreach materials and strategies for one-day national advocacy campaigns. T4CIP is sponsored by the Center for Injury Research and Policy in Columbus, Ohio, and the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Pediatric Trainees and Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention and is supported, in part, by funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital typically hosts workshops for public health professionals each year. The workshop presenters have been featured in media outlets around the world and have created local and national outreach campaigns. The International Program of the Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) seeks to decrease the burden of injury mortality and morbidity worldwide. Globally, 90% of the approximate 900,000 annual pediatric deaths due to injury occur in middle- and low-income countries. CIRP’s program has three components: visiting injury research scholars, international injury speakers and global collaborations.
