Lauryn “Lu” Oliphant was known for her warm sense of humor and gentle spirit. She had a deep love for music and enjoyed singing in the choir and playing her guitar. Lu was an honor student at Pickerington North High School and was active on the girls’ varsity golf team and the girl’s track team. In 2014, her sophomore year, she was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia or AML. Over the next eighteen months, she underwent four cycles of chemotherapy, experimental treatment and finally a bone marrow transplant. During this time, she fought with courage and determination and never gave up. Lu’s bravery and compassion were an inspiration to all who knew her, especially her many friends at Pickerington North and the young patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital that she mentored and took under her wing. After a hard fought battle, Lu passed away May 5, 2016.
