A Guide to the Evaluation and Management of Pediatric Hypertension

While the long-term health risks for children with hypertension have become increasingly clear over the last two decades, it can be challenging to evaluate the condition in a primary care setting. The determination of pediatric hypertension is based not only on blood pressure measurements but also on gender, age and height.

The Section of Nephrology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital has developed this practice tool, including a diagnostic algorithm, to help guide providers in the evaluation and management of pediatric hypertension. It incorporates elements of the 2017 update of clinical guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Subcommittee on Screening and Management of High Blood Pressure in Children.
