John David Spencer, MD, has recently been named the division chief of Nephrology at Nationwide Children’s. Dr. Spencer is also a principal investigator in the Center for Clinical and Translational Research in The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital and an associate professor of Pediatrics at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. A nationally recognized physician-scientist, Dr. Spencer’s research primarily focuses on basic and translational science related to antimicrobial peptides biology in the urinary tract. Dr. Spencer has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, book chapter and invited papers. He has lectured extensively nationally and internationally and is a member of the Research and Public Policy committees of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology.
Dr. Spencer received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and completed a residency in pediatrics at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, where he served as chief resident. Following residency, he came to Nationwide Children’s Hospital as a nephrology fellow, completed his training in 2012, and joined the faculty here.
