The Nationwide Children’s Hospital China Program officially began in 2005, although medical staff members in oncology, rheumatology, and psychology had been working in China for more than 10 years. In 2005, projects were centered in three hospitals: Cardiovascular Institute and Fuwai Hospital, Shanghai Children’s Hospital-Pudong District, and Wuhan Children’s Hospital. To date, more than 20 physician leaders from these premier pediatric facilities have come to Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) to collaborate in:
- The Heart Center
- Interventional Cardiology
- Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Cardiac Intensive Care
- Cardiopulmonary Perfusion
- Childhood Cancer
- Center for Injury Research and Policy
- Child Neurology
Visitors through the China Program must be fully qualified nurses and physicians and are subject to the same selection criteria as Stecker Scholars. China Program scholars must have English skills that are conducive to a successful educational experience as assessed by the International Scholars Program (ISP). They do not receive any funding from the ISP or NCH. NCH will assist with the visa process, reserve campus housing, and provide other related services.
The China Program is only open to eligible physicians and nurses from the institutions with which we have written affiliations: Cardiovascular Institute and Fuwai Hospital in Beijing; Shanghai Children’s Medical Center in the Pudong District of Shanghai; and Wuhan Children’s Hospital in Wuhan. Scholars from other institutions in China may apply through the Stecker Program or the Independently Funded Program of the ISP.
