Ruthann (Blough) Pfau, PhD earned her B.S. and M.S. in Biological Sciences from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. During that time, she volunteered at the Department of Medical Genetics and Birth Defects at Dayton Children’s Medical Center, where she developed her interest in clinical genetics and genetics diagnostics. She went on to study at Indiana University’s Indianapolis medical campus, completing her PhD in Medical and Molecular Genetics. During her time in Indiana, she also pursued another long-time interest, becoming a board-certified genetic counselor and working part-time as a prenatal genetic associate. Following a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical cytogenetics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Research Foundation, Dr. Pfau ran the CHMCC cytogenetics laboratory for several years, eventually transitioning to Dayton Children’s Hospital where she practiced both genetic counseling and laboratory diagnostics. Following a fellowship in clinical molecular genetics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital‘s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Dr. Pfau worked at the Center for Human Genetics Lab at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. She now rejoins the Nationwide Children’s Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics Laboratory as an associate director.
