Biography
Lynette K. Rogers, Ph.D. is a Principal Investigator in the Center for Perinatal Research at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She is an Associate Professor at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Rogers NIH-funded research focuses on lung injury and growth deficits in preterm infants.
The ultimate goal of the Rogers lab is to better understand the consequences of premature birth and strive to develop efficacious treatments that would decrease morbidities in prematurely born infants. Many preterm births are a result of maternal inflammation and once born, the infant often requires oxygen therapy for survival. The combination of inflammatory stimuli results in a much more severe pathophysiology with more critical and long lasting morbidities. Our studies have identified several epigenetic markers that are affected by one or both of these adverse conditions and may be linked to further disease development. These include microRNAs, upregulation of methylation enzymes, and methylation of key genes. These markers have been identified in infants diagnosed with Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and in our mouse model of combined inflammatory exposures. We are working to better understand the mechanisms driving these alterations, how they affect the morbidities observed, and to identify pathways that can be targeted for interventions.
