What is this medicine?

DEOXYCHOLIC ACID (Dee oxy KOE lik AS id) is used to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin.

How should I use this medicine?

This medicine is for injection into the fat under the chin. It is given by a health care professional in a hospital or clinic setting.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. This medicine is not approved for use in children.

What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue

  • nerve injury in the jaw that causes an uneven smile or facial weakness

  • trouble swallowing

Side effects that usually do not require medica attention (Report these to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome.):

  • swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area

What may interact with this medicine?

This medicine may interact with the following medicines:

  • certain medicines that treat or prevent blood clots like aspirin, clopidogrel, prasugrel, ticagrelor, ticlopidine, warfarin, enoxaparin, dalteparin, apixaban, dabigatran, and rivaroxaban

What if I miss a dose?

It is important not to miss your dose. Call your doctor or health care professional if you are unable to keep an appointment.

Where should I keep my medicine?

This drug is administered in a clinic and will not be stored at home.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • bleeding disorders

  • difficulty swallowing

  • infection under your chin

  • previous surgery or skin procedure or treatment for under the chin

  • thyroid disease

  • other medical conditions in the neck area

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to deoxycholic acid, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Your condition will be monitored carefully while you are receiving this medicine.
