After more than 20 years of distinguished service at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Abigail Wexner Research Institute, John Barnard, MD, has announced that he will be retiring in March 2022. Dr. Barnard’s scope of responsibilities impacts nearly every aspect of our mission.
Lauren Bakaletz, PhD, director of the Center for Microbial Pathogenesis in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute (AWRI) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, was named the 2021 Allen Distinguished Scholar in Pediatric Research.
Jaimie D. Nathan, MD, has been named chief of pediatric abdominal transplant and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. Balamurugan N. Appakalai, PhD, has been appointed as principal investigator in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute (AWRI) and will lead the pancreatic islet cell isolation laboratories at Nationwide Children’s.
