Family AIDS Clinic and Educational Services Program (FACES)
The Family AIDS Clinic and Education Services (FACES) program at Nationwide Children's Hospital is central Ohio’s primary pediatric and family HIV clinic, serving more than 400 HIV-positive clients in at least 40 counties and providing comprehensive care to HIV-infected children, youth and families. We have provided supportive services for more than 300 affected family members. We are also focused on HIV prevention and are one of the few access points in central Ohio for HIV prevention services to youth, including pre-exposure prophylaxis, PrEP.
As families and communities continually experience the impact of HIV in the Greater Columbus area, FACES responds by providing quality medical and psychosocial care to our diverse patients and through community prevention outreach.
Our interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, RNs, social workers, a pharmacist and a dietitian, to name a few, truly allows us to maximize results for our patients and within the community.
We also partner with local AIDS service organizations (ASOs) and various other community agencies to help meet the unique needs of our patients and to help reduce the spread of HIV in the local area.
Our History
The HIV Program at Nationwide Children's has participated in the care of HIV-infected patients since 1985. Over 350 HIV-infected children of HIV positive parents have been seen as patients in the Immune Deficiency Clinic.
Our program expanded its services in the fall of 1991 to include HIV-infected adult family members of children seen in the clinic, renaming the program to the Family AIDS Clinic and Educational Services (FACES).
FACES provides family-centered, community-based care to HIV-infected children, their families, and adults. In addition, the program promotes and implements educational activities around HIV prevention, including prevention of perinatal transmission and educating patients and family members about access to clinical trials.

FACES FREE Walk-In HIV and STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections) Testing
The FACES Program offers FREE HIV and STI testing. Clinic testing is open to the public, with no appointment needed.
The number of youth ages 13-24 being infected with HIV in Ohio is on the rise, and the Family AIDS Clinic and Educational Services (FACES) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is supporting the health and wellness of all the children in our community. The FACES clinic provides free testing onsite at our outpatient clinic and at various locations throughout the community.
