Volunteer Retraining :: Nationwide Children's Hospital

Volunteer Retraining

You have been volunteering at Nationwide Children’s for another year—thank you!  As you know, we need you to complete your annual retraining to stay compliant with hospital and JCAHO standards. The retraining should take less than an hour. Let us know what you think of our online retraining system!

To complete the retraining process, download both the retraining presentation and the retraining packet below. Use the presentation to guide you through the packet of forms and quizzes. When you need to complete a form or quiz you can either:

  • Print and complete by hand, or
  • Complete as a PDF and submit via e-mail as an attachment.
  • MAC USERSYou will need to download Adobe Reader.  The default PDF viewer on Macintosh computers is meant for quick reading/viewing. Your entries will not be saved. If you do not want to download Adobe Reader, you will need to print and mail your retraining packet to the Family and Volunteer Services.  Thank you.

Forms can be emailed with electronic responses, or if the forms are printed and completed, they can be brought to the Family and Volunteer Services office, or mailed to:

Nationwide Children's Hospital
Family and Volunteer Services
700 Children's Drive

Online Retraining Detailed Directions

You may find it helpful to print this page for reference. You may do so by clicking on the printer icon at the top right hand side of this page beside the title "Volunteer Retraining" then selecting "file-print" in the upper left hand corner of that screen.

To Open the Files:

To use our online volunteer retraining, you will be downloading, or opening, two files.

You will get to the presentation slides by clicking "Download the Presentation" above.  It may take a minute or so to open. When this file is open, minimize the screen using the 'minus sign', in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Now you need to open your Retraining Packet by clicking "Download the Packet". This may also take a minute or so to open. You have a decision to make. Do you want to print these pages and deliver or mail them to Family and Volunteer Services? Your other choice is to fill in the blanks on your computer screen, save the file, and send it as an attachment to Family and Volunteer Services via your email account.

If you want to print your Retraining Packet:  Once complete, click Print Form in the upper right corner of page 1.

Please note: The retraining packet and presentation are in PDF format and require the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them.

If you do not have the Adobe Reader, please click here for a free download. Please note that the PDF documents are large files and may take some time to download.

Remember, you now have your web page open and you downloaded two files. To switch from one file to the other, just find the bar on the bottom of the computer screen and click on it. For example, the web page will say "Volunteer Retraining."  The Presentation Slides will say "Acrobat Reader (volunteer retraining)" and the Retraining Packet will say "Volunteer Retraining."

To complete the packet and the training:

To begin, either write or type your answers on page 1 of the Retraining packet. Now switch back to the Presentation and view the slides for the next section. You will be asked to switch back to the packet to complete the quizzes and agreements when you finish a section.

Signatures:

This form will ask you to create a Digital Signature.  Click on the box needing a signature.  Click “I want a new digital ID” and Next.
You will be asked where you want to store your ID.  You can decide, but, I chose the second button—“Windows Certificate Store”.
Add your name and email address and click Finish. Each time you need a signature, your digital signature will pop up!

To Save and e-mail your Retraining Packet:

To save your Retraining Packet and send to Family and Volunteer Services as an attachment, follow these steps.  With your retraining packet on the screen, click File in the upper left hand corner, then Save a Copy.  It is good to change the name slightly, like adding your last name to the file name.  Save on your Desktop, so you will be able to find it!

Minimize this screen and go to your email. Open a new email and address it to Volunteering@NationwideChildrens.org. You will need to attach a file. Depending on where you saved your retraining, that is where you will look for your attachment. Click on the file. It will now be attached to the email. Please feel free to write a little note telling us how you really feel about online retraining! Hit send.
